Manuel Bagues

Welcome to my webpage. I am currently an Associate Professor at the Economics department of Aalto University. I worked previously at Universidad Carlos III, and I hold a PhD from Universitat Pompeu Fabra. My research interests are primarily in Labor Economics, with a focus on Personnel Economics, Gender Economics, and Economics of Education. I am also interested in the determinants of voting behaviour. My work has been published by the American Economic Review, Journal of Political Economy, Review of Economic Studies, American Economic Journal: Applied Economics, Journal of Economic Theory, Management Science and Journal of Public Economics, among others. Please follow this link to learn more about my research. You may also find some short articles addressed to a broader (non-academic) audience in the popular writing section. And if you are planning to take a public exam in Spain, you might be interested in having a look at the public exams section, where I provide some useful statistical information. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any suggestion or comment.

Human life occurs only once, and the reason we cannot determine which of our decisions are good and which bad is that in a given situation we can make only one decision; we are not granted a second, third, or fourth life in which to compare various decisions.

Milan Kundera, The Unbearable Lightness of Being

The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of doubt, what is laid before him.

Leo Tolstoy, The Kingdom of God is Within You
